Last Friday night at a sold-out event at Joeโs Movement Emporium, PG County neighbors raised $13,000 for families impacted by ICE kidnappings at a community dance party. The music was popping (shout out to the Hy-Fy Groove Society), the food was incredible (learn more about catering services that support neighbors here), and the margaritas were freshly squeezed, bless The Water Hole.
It all happened because โWhat can we do?โ turned into โYou know what might work...โ which turned into โOh, I bet Bob would help...โ which turned into โAnd I bet we could get Becca to paint something...โ which turned into โHey, do you have a minute? I want to run an idea by youโฆโ
Things happen in our world because real people ask other real people to join them. Itโs messy and time consuming and annoying and sometimes we burn all the tips off our fingers because of the hot glue on crepe paper monarch butterflies, but the result can be beautiful, with tangible impacts. And it can be a damn good time.ย
We just gotta ask others to join in.ย
